Siscunsí moor

Siscunsi Paramo is located in the highlands of Sogamoso and has beautiful lagoons, countless water sources and the typical frailjones (plants that live at high altitude in Paramo ecosystems). However, this Páramo is very special because of the Andean condor that can be seen. Because Páramo Siscunsi was selected as an Andean Condor release site by the “Programa Nacional del Condor Andino”, it has a nice change to see this iconic and endangered Colombian bird in its natural habitat.

Candelas Jumping

The impressive waterfall “Salto de Candelas” is the second highest waterfall in Colombia, now becoming the first, as the first one is drying up, while this one is even scaring how much water it has. It is also one of the most important natural reserves in the Andes Mountains. The Cusiana River, one of the most important rivers in the department of Casanare, originates in the reserve. The area is considered by the local government as a cultural and environmental heritage.

Oceta Moor

This particular Páramo is considered by Páramo experts to be the most beautiful and spectacular Páramo in the world. It has a city lost in stone, several types of Frailejones (plants that live at high altitude in the Paramo ecosystem), gardens and colorful flowers. Although this Páramo can be breathtakingly beautiful and spectacular, it is still little known by tourists.

Lake Tota & Playa Blanca

Lake Tota is the largest and highest lake in Colombia.  The lake was one of the most important and secret places of the Muisca culture and stands out for its impressive surrounding territory and trout fishing.  Lake Tota also contains a beautiful white sand beach that can easily be mistaken for a sea beach and is the ideal place to start a boating trip or practice various water and extreme sports such as kayaking, sailing, jet skiing, horseback riding, and canoeing.

Morca

Most of the inhabitants of Morca live from the exploitation of coal. However, most Colombians know Morca because it is an important place for religious people. Every first Saturday of the month many religious visit Morca and celebrate various masses in honor of the Virgin Mary. The village itself is small, but it has a beautiful church and a nearby temple where the Virgin Mary appeared.

Sogamos is located in the middle of the spectacular Sugamuxi region and has all the facilities you may need, such as supermarkets, restaurants, bars and a variety of stores. Also the Temple of the Sun is located in Sogamoso.

Templo del Sol

A must see is the Museo Arquelógico de Sogamoso which preserves what remains of the Muica culture. In the museum you will find Muisca mummies, clothing, handicrafts, jewelry, three literally dwarfed heads as well as a great diversity of artifacts related to the Muisca and other indigenous Colombian cultures.  Outside you will see ethnographic replicas of the houses and the most important temple built by members of the Muisca culture.

Taste and learn about the most exquisite local varieties and enjoy the amazing view of the valley of the Sun. Puntalarga is only 20 minutes from Sogamoso and is considered to be a jewel of tropical viniculture (the science, production and study of grapes). Taste and learn about the quality of the typical wines of the region while enjoying the beautiful view of the Valle del Sol and the surrounding mountains.

Mongui

Mongui is considered to be the most beautiful town in Boyacá. Its very ancestral main square, the basilica, the enigmatic monastery, a masterpiece of monumental architecture of the eighteenth century and the calicanto bridge, all full of stories through its narrow paved streets, make this place worth a visit. Monguí is also well known for the handmade footballs that are sold in several of its stores. A special gift to take home. Monguí is off the beaten tourist track and has several possibilities for mountaineering. See Páramo de Ocetá if you wish to visit the most beautiful Páramo in the world from Monguí.

Tibasosa

Tibasosa is a pre-Columbian town that was originally inhabited by indigenous people. Today the town is world famous for its feijoa crops. Feijoa is a small green fruit with a sweet and sour taste. Around the well-preserved main square you will find several stores that serve the delicious feijoa in juices, sweets, ice cream and even alcohol. Every year in June there is a feijoa festival in Tibasosa.

In the native language of the Muiscas Iza means “Place of healing”.  Iza has a beautiful main square which, on Sundays, is filled with stalls selling typical desserts, pies, puddings, etc. Iza also offers many products made of wood. Perfect for gifts! However, most people visit Iza for the therapeutic hot springs. So go and enjoy this beautiful town, its beautiful green landscapes and its nice hot springs.
