Most of the inhabitants of Morca live from the exploitation of coal. However, most Colombians know Morca because it is an important place for religious people. Every first Saturday of the month many religious visit Morca and celebrate various masses in honor of the Virgin Mary. The village itself is small, but it has a beautiful church and a nearby temple where the Virgin Mary appeared.
Nobsa
Nobsa is known for being the handicraft center of Boyacá. Here you will find many traditional stores that sell the best wool, wood and leather works. The people of this beautiful town will share with you the ancestral secrets of how to work the wool and how to make the famous Boyacá “ruana” and how to dehydrate fruits. Then stroll through the streets, visit the beautiful church and buy a beautiful traditional ruana.
Sogamoso o Suamox
Once upon a time Sogamoso, also known as Suamox the “city of the Sun”, was a religious center of the Muiscas. It is now the second most populated city in the department of Boyacá. Sogamos is located in the middle of the spectacular Sugamuxi region and has all the facilities you may need, such as supermarkets, restaurants, bars and a variety of stores. Also the Temple of the Sun is located in Sogamoso.
Templo del Sol
A must see is the Museo Arquelógico de Sogamoso which preserves what remains of the Muica culture. In the museum you will find Muisca mummies, clothing, handicrafts, jewelry, three literally dwarfed heads as well as a great diversity of artifacts related to the Muisca and other indigenous Colombian cultures. Outside you will see ethnographic replicas of the houses and the most important temple built by members of the Muisca culture.
Viñedo Puntalarga
Are you ready to taste the finest tropical wines in a beautiful vineyard located at the high altitude of 2600 meters? Taste and learn about the most exquisite local varieties and enjoy the amazing view of the valley of the Sun. Puntalarga is only 20 minutes from Sogamoso and is considered to be a jewel of tropical viniculture (the science, production and study of grapes). Taste and learn about the quality of the typical wines of the region while enjoying the beautiful view of the Valle del Sol and the surrounding mountains.
Mongui
Mongui is considered to be the most beautiful town in Boyacá. Its very ancestral main square, the basilica, the enigmatic monastery, a masterpiece of monumental architecture of the eighteenth century and the calicanto bridge, all full of stories through its narrow paved streets, make this place worth a visit. Monguí is also well known for the handmade footballs that are sold in several of its stores. A special gift to take home. Tibasosa
Tibasosa is a pre-Columbian town that was originally inhabited by indigenous people. Today the town is world famous for its feijoa crops. Feijoa is a small green fruit with a sweet and sour taste. Around the well-preserved main square you will find several stores that serve the delicious feijoa in juices, sweets, ice cream and even alcohol. Every year in June there is a feijoa festival in Tibasosa.
Iza
In the native language of the Muiscas Iza means “Place of healing”. Iza has a beautiful main square which, on Sundays, is filled with stalls selling typical desserts, pies, puddings, etc. Iza also offers many products made of wood. Perfect for gifts! However, most people visit Iza for the therapeutic hot springs. So go and enjoy this beautiful town, its beautiful green landscapes and its nice hot springs.
